Tuesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time – Year A
For the flory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
First ReadingJeremiah 14:17-22
“You shall say to them this word: ‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is struck down with a great wound, with a very grievous blow. If I go out into the field, behold, those slain by the sword! And if I enter the city, behold, the diseases of famine! For both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land, and have no knowledge.’” Have you utterly rejected Judah? Does your soul loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror. We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you. Do not spurn us, for your name’s sake; do not dishonor your glorious throne; remember and do not break your covenant with us. Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are you not he, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for you do all these things.
Responsorial PsalmPsalm 79:8, 9, 11 and 13
℟For the flory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
Do not remember against us the iniquities of our forefathers; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low.
℟For the flory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake!
℟For the flory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
Let the groans of the prisoners come before you; according to your great power preserve those doomed to die!
Then we your people, the flock of your pasture, will give thanks to you for ever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.
℟For the flory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
Alleluia
℟Alleluia!
The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower;
all who come to him will live for ever.
℟Alleluia!
GospelMatthew 13:36-43
Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the
enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and throw them in to the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
