The Pontifical Mission Societies USA is calling for volunteers to help make rosaries for the Sept. 24 Beatification Mass of Ven. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, where organizers expect 75,000 people to pray the Rosary before the liturgy begins.
According to the organization, a World Mission Rosary will be distributed to each attendee. The rosary, which was designed by Ven. Sheen in 1951, features five colored decades representing the five continents and the Church's missionary efforts throughout the world: green for Africa, blue for the Pacific Islands, white for Europe, red for the Americas, and yellow for Asia.
"Whether you make 100 or 1,000," the Pontifical Mission Societies website read, "every rosary becomes part of something larger."
Each rosary will be blessed before the beatification, the mission added.
As Zeale News previously reported, tickets for the Sept. 24 beatification Mass in St. Louis become available June 23, and the event is expected to draw pilgrims from across the U.S. and abroad.
The Pontifical Mission Societies USA said Catholics interested in helping with the effort are being asked to pledge the number of rosaries they can commit to making ahead of the beatification. The organization added that it hopes the rosaries will continue to be used in prayer long after the event concludes.
