CatholicVote partnering with America 250 Civics Education Coalition

This week marked the launch of the America 250 Civics Education Coalition, of which CatholicVote is a partner alongside the US Department of Education, Turning Point USA, and other leading national organizations.
“Charlie Kirk’s assassination in the midst of exercising his right to free speech is a heartbreaking reminder that we must never take our rights as citizens for granted,” said CatholicVote President and CEO Kelsey Reinhardt. “We need to study basic civics, which teaches that rights and duties go together, and both spring from the dignity of the human person made in the image and likeness of God.”
“Today’s young adults – millennials and Gen Z – have been offered almost no formation in civics, and many older Americans need a refresher course,” Reinhardt continued. “The Coalition and CatholicVote will work together to change that and remind Catholics of the greatness of our country and their call to live the virtue of patriotism.”
“We’ll be helping Catholics better understand our civic responsibilities as American citizens, inspire greater participation in the public square and reinforce shared values that unite us as one nation under God,” Reinhardt added in a post on X.

More than 40 leading national and state-based organizations comprise this coalition, which aims to advance patriotism and civics education across the nation. America First Policy Institute (AFPI), PragerU, Hillsdale College, Liberty Counsel, Moms for Liberty, and Alliance Defending Freedom are among the members.
“As America approaches 250 years since its founding, we are proud to announce this coalition to ensure every young American understands the beauty of our nation and is equipped with the civic knowledge required to contribute meaningfully to its future,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, who is spearheading the coalition.
“A country cannot survive if its values are forgotten by its people,” she added. “More than ever, we need to restore the vitality of the American spirit, and this coalition will take bold steps to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth toward active and informed citizenship.”
The coalition’s agenda includes a speaking tour through college campuses across all 50 states — an effort that Kirk undertook himself for many years with Turning Point USA to engage with college students, including on the day of his assassination Sept. 10.
Greg Sindelar, AFPI interim president, noted that ‘[t]he sorrowful events of the past week have reminded us how precious our inheritance of liberty truly is — and how easily it can be lost if we do not constantly, faithfully, and strongly defend it.”
The coalition, he added, is “building a movement to ensure the next generation understands America’s founding principles, carries them forward with confidence and pride, and secures a future of freedom.”
