FBI arrests 2 men after incendiary device found under FOX News vehicle in Utah

The FBI arrested two suspects this past weekend after an incendiary device that had been lit but “failed to function as designed” was found underneath a FOX News vehicle in Salt Lake City Sept. 12, according to an affidavit obtained by CBS News.

Unified Fire Authority Investigations officer Jeffrey David Nelson said in the affidavit that because of the type of incendiary device and its placement, “this incident constituted a significant threat to public safety, ” CBS News reported.

Salt Lake City-based news station FOX 13 confirmed to CBS News that the vehicle was parked next to an occupied building. The FBI is spearheading the investigation with help from the Unified Fire Authority bomb squad, according to CBS News.

The investigators identified and tracked the suspects to a home on the outskirts of the city, which is 40 miles north of the college campus where Charlie Kirk was assassinated Sept. 10.

The investigators found “firearms, illegal narcotics and hoax weapons of mass destruction” at the home and arrested suspects Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, according to CBS News. They were booked at the Salt Lake County Jail Sept. 14.

According to their booking information, both are American citizens, The Daily Wire reported Sept. 15. Adeeb Nasir was born in Pakistan. The outlet reports that both suspects have histories of illicit drug use that resulted in orders preventing them from legally owning firearms. They are being held without bail.

The Daily Wire reported that the suspects have been charged with “threat of terrorism, possessing weapons of mass destruction, aggravated arson, and possessing explosive devices.”
