Rep. Thomas Massie introduces pro-life 'No Funds for Foreign Abortions Act'

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky introduced legislation Sept. 11 to permanently bar US aid from going to any foreign governments or organizations that promote or perform abortions.

The measure, titled the No Funds for Foreign Abortions Act (HR 5302), would also codify into law the pro-life Mexico City Policy first enacted by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. The policy blocks federal funding for international non-governmental organizations involved in abortions and has been repealed and reinstated by successive administrations, Massie said in a press release

“The message of the 'No Funds for Foreign Abortions Act' is clear: foreign countries that spend money to kill unborn children will not receive aid from the United States of America,” Massie said in the release.

The Republican lawmaker argued that all American tax dollars should stay in the US and called the proposed pro-life bill “a good first step to achieving this goal."

The bill is backed by original co-sponsors Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.
