Christ Cathedral in the Diocese of Orange, California, will open a new museum honoring the Shroud of Turin at the Richard H. Pickup Cultural Center.

Christ Cathedral in the Diocese of Orange, California, will open a new museum honoring the Shroud of Turin at the Richard H. Pickup Cultural Center, according to a press release from the diocese.
The Resurrection Center at Christ Cathedral, a nonprofit, is funding and operating the museum, which will showcase two detailed replicas of the shroud, which is believed to be Jesus’ burial cloth. Othonia, a Rome-based consortium of Shroud of Turin Shroud experts affiliated with the Pontifical Ateneo Regina Apostolorum educational institute, is presenting the exhibit alongside the diocese.
“The Shroud of Turin: An Immersive Experience' at Christ Cathedral will prove to be an encounter with Jesus that's never before been experienced,” Terry McGaughan, the nonprofit’s president, said. “This personal encounter with Christ will engage audiences, spark curiosity and encourage contemplation on the spiritual and historical significance of Jesus. Through the Shroud, we draw upon scientific evidence, sacred tradition and doctrines of faith for the visitor to engage in a visual gospel supporting the truth of Jesus and His Resurrection."
The museum will also display a newly commissioned bronze statue of Jesus based on the depiction of Christ on the Shroud, by Italian sculptor Luigi Enzo Mattei. Mattei created the Holy Door of the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome.
Bishop Kevin Vann will preside over a blessing ceremony for the museum at 11 a.m. Sept. 8, The museum will open to the public in November.
