Pray with Refine: St. Michael novena for courageous children and strong families

CatholicVote’s lifestyle newsletter Refine is inviting families to join a special novena to St. Michael the Archangel — a prayer journey asking his intercession for homes, marriages, and especially children.

The novena will take place Sept. 20–29, ending on the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel.

Catholic parents long to protect their children’s innocence but also to see them grow strong in faith, able to live joyfully and bravely in a world that often pushes against those values.

This novena is prayed with that hope: nine days asking for St. Michael’s intercession so America’s children can face the world with courage and confidence.

Each day carries a particular intention, including prayers for courage for Catholic students returning to school, for protection from spiritual harm online, and for strength in marriages and homes so they remain places of faith.

Participants will ask St. Michael to inspire devotion to guardian angels, encourage Sunday rest, and deepen bonds between siblings, parents, and grandparents. The novena closes in gratitude, giving thanks for God’s protection.

Praying as a family allows these intentions to take root. Whether around the dinner table, before bedtime, or gathered at Sunday Mass, the novena can become a moment of grace — a chance to renew trust in God’s protection and to remind children that they never face life’s challenges alone.

Refine invites everyone to join in requesting St. Michael’s intercession for families. May this novena strengthen homes, protect children, and inspire them to live their faith with joy.
